The MSA encourages all salmon anglers to practice catch and release fishing. With salmon numbers at such critically low levels, the live release of every individual salmon is one of the most important and simplest conservation actions any angler can make to helping protect and sustain our cherished salmon resource. Releasing all angled salmon will insure that the maximum possible amount of spawning can occur, which is crucial if we are to successfully grow our salmon stocks back to a healthier and sustainable level.
To help anglers better understand the best techniques for live releasing salmon, the ASF, FQSA, and the Quebec government developed the following 7 minute video. http://www.asf.ca/live-releae.html
The MSA also encourages anglers to use barbless hooks. Pinching back the barb on fly hooks allows for the easier removal of the hook, thus allowing the fish to be released more quickly.
