Notice from the Nature Legacy Initiative Team

On December 13, 2022, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development Mike Holland announced the establishment of 435 new Nature Legacy protected areas totaling 274,560ha. This brings the total number of Nature Legacy protected areas to 552 (384,789ha) and 10% of the province, meeting the goal that was set in 2019.

“This accomplishment re-affirms New Brunswick’s commitment to responsible resource management, the safeguarding of biodiversity and climate resilient landscapes, and the protection of spaces that connect people with nature. Areas such as forests, wetlands, and rivers that provide habitat for much of the province’s wildlife will now remain intact so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
