Press Release: MSA Celebrates 70 Years of Protecting Atlantic Salmon
The Miramichi Salmon Association (MSA) is proud to announce its 70th anniversary as a leader in the conservation and protection of Atlantic salmon in the Miramichi watershed. Since its founding in 1953, the MSA has been dedicated to the
preservation and restoration of the Atlantic salmon population in the Miramichi River, one of the most important salmon rivers in the world.
This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the Miramichi Fish Hatchery operated by the MSA at the Miramichi Salmon Conservation Centre in South Esk. The Miramichi Fish Hatchery is the oldest continuously operating fish hatchery in North America and is vital to the MSA’s stocking programs and conservation work.
To commemorate these milestones, the MSA will be hosting a series of events throughout the year, including local engagement events that highlight the history of the organization and its achievements over the past seven decades, and fundraising efforts to support the MSA's ongoing conservation and restoration work.
